Axe/Lynx Deodorant

Axe Deodorant: Axe, or Lynx is a Unilever-owned brand of men's deodorant, body spray, and shower gel that is popular in North America, Europe, Australia, South America and South Asia. The brand name 'Axe' was first launched in France in 1983, although the product itself was first launched in South Africa in 1974 under the brand name 'Ego' by Unilever. Axe bodyspray is a body spray that made its debut in 2002.

Axe first appeared in the UK under the brand name Lynx in 1985. It was the first deodorant spray to be marketed on it's own rather than as part of a collection. The brand quickly became popular, due in part to the amusing advertising campaign. Within just a couple of years Unilever expanded the range to include shower gels and the selection of fragrances continue to expand with each launch comes a new onslaught of comic TV advertisements the "Lynx Effect...

However, like virtually all other deodorant products on the market, Axe/Lynx is not a natural product so you can not be certain that it is best for you or best for the environment. Admitedly Axe deodorant is presented well but it could easily be argued that there is an overuse of packaging.

Personally I find the scents used in Axe very pleasant and is the only deodorant product that I use while using natural crystal deodorant. The reason for this is clear. Crystal deodorant has no smell. Whenever I use natural deodorant I use an extremely small amount of a scented product along with it. Unfortunately the only scented natural deodorant in Alvin Connor's which is available in both rose and lavender. Unfortunately, being male, these do not appeal to me. I suppose these scents are used as the available natural scents are very limited. I do not always use Axe as I prefer using a very small amount of my favorite cologne.

Why I use Natural Deodorants?

Put in the simplest of terms ALL deodorant products work AGAINST the body to limit the effects of natural body functions. Sweating is perfectly natural but unfortunately this can lead to body odor. We could shower more often but this is not always possible.

Anti-perspirants work by blocking the pores of the skin - how could this possibly be healthy. There are even urban myths that say, if you cover the bodies total skin surface you will die. Indeed when the "Myth Busters" tried to test this they certainly started to feel unwell very quickly. So why would I want to clog up all my pores?

OK sweat patches don't look so great but, for most of the time, we do not need an anti-perspirant.

The smell of sweat is caused by the sweat on the skins surface and the reaction with bacteria as it breaks down. This can happen extremely quickly so there is an obvious need of something to stop or reduce this. Some deodorants just mask the smell of body odor with a replacement scent. However this quickly becomes stale and the resulting smell can actually be worse!

Natural crystal deodorant works by leaving an extremely thin film of the crystal on the skins surface. The crystal inhibits the bacteria and therefore the smell, remaining effective for an incredible amount of time. When I use it I have found that one application can remain effective for a number of DAYS. This is amazing, especially when you consider the fact that only one deodorant stick can last for much longer than 12 months of daily use. I use Alvin Connor's crystal deodorant stick and it has lasted nearly 2 years. OK so I do not use it daily but for good reason - I don't need to!
